WhatsApp: Now you can silence a contact forever
WhatsApp now allows you to silence a contact or group forever. The application also has a new interface for storage management. Both features are available in beta. We tell you how to activate them.
No feature under development on WhatsApp escapes the radar of WabetaInfo. It has been known for a few weeks that the app was about to host an option to mute a contact or group forever. This is a handy option to get rid of unwanted conversations, without choosing the most drastic option: block the contacts in question.
It was already possible to transfer a group or contact for a limited time. This gives you the possibility to enter a kind of “do not disturb” mode which can be applied as desired to the people or chat channels of your choice. You just have to do a long press on the conversation, then click on the icon with a crossed-out bell in the menu that appears at the top.
Three options were offered so far: 8 hours, a week, or a year. The last one has just been replaced by “Forever”. In other words, you can mutate a conversation without worrying about having to do it again later.
New interface for storage space management
WhatsApp has also updated the storage space management interface. Screenshots had been published a few days ago even though the feature was not yet available in beta. The menu now has a gauge in two different colors to distinguish the space occupied by media on the one hand and other types of files on the other.
Going down further, we discover the list of files classified according to their weight. Previewing images, videos and audios also make it easier to choose the files you want to clean. Like all new features in WhatsApp, the two new features first go through a beta phase. You must therefore be a tester registered in the program.
Nothing too complicated, just go to this page and follow the instructions. And if you'd rather keep the consumer version, the new beta features should be coming to everyone soon.
